🎓 How Ruby Hibi works — Quick Tutorial
Welcome to Ruby Hibi! Here is a quick guide to the main features and how to get the most out of the app.
- 📖 Read texts at your level with annotations: Read stories and lessons matched to your level with automatic reading annotations (furigana or pinyin), word colour highlights, audio read-aloud, and instant word and sentence lookups.
- 🗂 Pick words for spaced-repetition review: Tap any unfamiliar word while reading to see its meaning in context and add it to your review deck (along with structured kanji or hanzi lessons) so you remember what you read.
- ✍️ Write and get reviews: Practice writing short entries or multi-chapter stories in your target language and receive detailed corrections, grammar notes, and reviews.
- 👥 Share and discuss with friends: Add friends to share stories and writing projects, suggest useful words and texts to each other, highlight passages, and discuss them together.
- 📚 Built-in content, your own uploads, or AI generation: We have built-in stories ready to read, and it is also great to submit whatever you find useful — books, documents, web articles, comics, or audio and video — or generate custom lessons and stories with AI.
- 🔑 AI keys: helpful, but completely optional: AI keys are very useful for full-sentence translations, grammar explanations, writing reviews, and story generation, but it is completely fine not to use them — offline dictionaries, built-in texts, and flashcards work without any key.
- 📱 Available on Kindle: The website is available on Kindle and other e-readers, with a dedicated e-ink layout and preloaded word and sentence popups for smooth reading.
- 🌱 Always evolving: The app is actively evolving and we are constantly trying to make it better for everyone. Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome! About & data credits
